Mountain biking on a muddy day in the Wombat State Forest.

The Wombat state forest is laced with trails. It is non technical and rather fun to explore. We started at the Bullengarook Reserve entrance. It is the second ride I did in this area just a few weeks ago.
I like to get out every now and again for a mountain bike ride. It is a great pleasure to ride on the tracks in the forest compared to battling it out on the roads in the city.

I am a member of Cycling Victoria Off Road, which is an active mountain biking group in Victoria. They are a friendly group, who have  social rather than race orientated rides. They can be found via meetup.
Due to it being wet a few days earlier the tracks were rather wet in places compared to our very hot and dry one earlier. How different things can be with a bit of water on the surface, I am glad that the terrain was fairly flat, so we avoided any catastrophic spills.
My bike required a thorough scrub afterwards.
Occasionally we saw a motorbike or 4wd, but by and large it was all for sole enjoyment.
Good company, a fun day out, lots of riding and rewarded with a good feed before leaving for home.  (after a change of clothes !).

CVOR has a policy to keep together and ride socially not race. I love this format, not  being a racer. The rides are well described and structured. Here is the brief for this one:

The CVOR MTB “80K” Wombat Extra Challenge
Meeting time: 9.45am, departure 10am sharp

Meeting point:
In front of Bullengarook Reserve, on the Gisborne / Bacchus Marsh Road. Please park your car under the trees on this road in front of this reserve, due to the gates at times being locked without notice, due to horse events. The Fire Station is near to this reserve, which can also be used as a reference point.

The Plan:
This is a re run of this ride back in early May, but with an extra 20 k added.

Hence it is a step up from that ride in grade, due to not just the extra km, but also due to possible wet muddy trails/roads/fire trails.

The aim of this ride is to offer a mixed bag on the day, we shall ride many of the fire trails used during the Mad Ride this year, along with some gravel roads, as well as a lap of the shorter, Woodend Single track 9 klm Loop, (NOTE: We shall only undertake this shorter loop to give us time for remainder of the ride, hence do not come hoping to also do the longer and more technical loop, anyway if we did we would end up riding in the dark).

We shall also undertake the little known, but to locals, Hobbs Road single trail, a non technical flowing track. This ride only includes a few km of bitumen road.
